Every 10 years, a battle called "Holy Grail War" takes place. Seven spirits of heroes can be summoned as "servant" by magicians (called "master"). They can have physical form and will fight each other. Each of the spirit represents their skill : Saber (sword), Archer, Lancer, Assassin, Caster, Rider and Berserker. The winner will receive The Holy Grail that is believed can grant any wish.

Emiya Shirou, an ordinary boy is dragged into the current Holy Grail War when he accidentally watched a battle between Archer and Lancer. In his attempt to survive, Shirou unconsciously summons Saber, one of the strongest Servant.

With the help of a classmate (Tohsaka Rin) who is also a Master, Shirou soon learns a lot abotu his new "destiny". Can he win the Holy Grail War? Does he want to win?

This is actually a classic anime from 2006. I somehow missed watching this anime until some time early 2010 when I saw Fate Stay Night figurines on sale in a promo. Bought the figurine set (Saber, Rin, Archer, Rider and Illyas) and start watching the anime. Later in 2010, there was a movie "Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works" which is an alternate story of the original TV series. Recommended for age 17+ (lots of blood and violence).
